Donors step in to support MyTime mums for Mother's Day

Posted by Kerrie Gottliebsen | 07/05/15

Every week over fifty mums of children with disabilities, developmental delay or chronic medical conditions attend one of six Tweddle MyTime groups across Avondale Heights, Wyndham Vale, Point Cook, Werribee, Altona Meadows and Maribyrnong. These important get togethers provide friendship, peer support, community resources and play helpers for children so parents can have a break while their children play.

For some, Mother’s day is a reflective time. When your child receives a diagnosis of a serious illness or disability, motherhood takes a different path. Having lunch out on Mother’s Day with hoards of other people when you have a child with special needs can be difficult to say the least, especially at loud, crowded restaurants.

Although these dedicated mums deserved a lot more, we are thrilled to honour them with a small gift bag, possible through the support of our generous donors.  We’re grateful to Coles Braybrook who ensured chocolate was part of the gift bag. We also extend our thanks to Myer Highpoint who provided a range of beautiful fragrances to make our mums feel special. Finch Publishing provided magnets and beautiful books for the groups, including My Life in a Pea Soup by Lisa Nops, about coming to terms with her daughter's disability.  A twitter friend and previous Tweddle mum with twins donated a generous supply of gorgeous skincare products.

Thanks once again to these kind donors.

Tweddle would like to extend a very happy Mother’s Day to all mums.  You do a great job.
