Government vouchers to help strengthen relationships

Posted by Kerrie Gottliebsen | 23/01/14

Tweddle commends the Federal Government’s decision to provide a trial to help strengthen relationships and avoid family breakdown.  Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews has confirmed the Federal Government’s $200 voucher scheme is a subsidy to be used for marriage and relationship education and counselling, including parenting education.

Tweddle Manager Community Programs Sue Wilson agrees that providing couples with resources to strengthen families is important. “Supporting the parenting relationship is crucial to ensuring that children get the best possible start in life”. The scheme will proceed with a 12-month trial of 100,000 couples from July 1. Tweddle’s Social Support program provided counselling to 179 parents in the 2012/13 financial year.  We look forward to being part of this initiative.

If you would like to discuss relationship or parenting concerns you can contact Tweddle's Psychology Service for support.
