Christmas generosity appreciated at Tweddle

Christmas has come early this year with a generous donation of 36 beautifully hand knitted jumpers from Fay Stankovich and Lorna Bannon. We give these jumpers to some of the families staying at Tweddle. Many are purchased by staff and the proceeds spent on children's art supplies. We would also like to thank IKEA for their much loved kitchen set which is proving very popular!Read more...

Tweddle's Annual General Meetings have always featured engaging, insightful guest speakers and our 92nd AGM was no different. Meredith Fuller, psychologist and author joined Tweddle CEO Vivienne Amery, Acting Chair person Nicole Milburn and Treasurer Michael Wild in guiding guests through the previous year's highlights and presented awards to Tweddle staff. This year is the 20th anniversary of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being. The day seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.Read more...

Sunday the 25th November is White Ribbon Day. White Ribbon is an organisation that works to prevent male violence against women. It is a male-led campaign that believes that most men are good and that good men abhor such violence. White Ribbon also believes in the capacity of the individual to change and to encourage change in others. Read more...

You really know when you’ve touched someone’s heart when you make them cry with happiness. Such are the emotions evoked by the wonderful art exhibition provided by students from Footscray West Primary School. Although some staff, children and parents from Footscray West Primary school had attended a Tweddle program, Children’s Week 2012 officially brought the two 90 plus year old community institutions together.Read more...

Tweddle is proud and excited to team up with the students and staff at Footscray West Primary School to celebrate Children’s Week. (Oct 20th-28th) Tweddle approached Footscray West Principal Brendan Millar to see if they would consider donating some children’s art to brighten the Tweddle living spaces. The overwhelming response produced over six weeks of hard work by art teacher Susie Belcher and her students, producing 30 amazing paintings, dream catchers and papier mache families inspired by family and diversity.Read more...

Jean Hailes Reseach Unit publishes Tweddle Day Stay study

A recent Monash University Jean Hailes Research Unit study into the Tweddle Day Stay Program printed in the International Journal of Mental Health Systems examined the health, social circumstances and presenting needs of 115 clients attending the Tweddle Day stay Program. The study looked at parents with infants under 12 months old and assessed the parent mental health and infant behaviour outcomes and factors associated with program success. World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. WMHD is an annual program held on 10 October to raise public awareness of mental health issues worldwide. The primary objective of WMHD is to promote open discussion of mental health issues, as well as emphasise the importance of seeking help and early intervention when needed. White Balloon Day is a Bravehearts signature event held annually during Child Protection Week to raise awareness about child sexual assault and help empower survivors to break their silence. One in five children will be sexually assaulted. Help Bravehearts reduce this alarming statistic, money raised will support education, prevention and counselling programs for children who have been sexually assaulted.Read more...

Tontine’s recent generous donation of quilts, pillows, mattress protectors and pillow protectors for 18 beds ensures that our family’s stay at Tweddle is hygienic and comfortable. Pillows at Tweddle are given to children over three as recommended by Sids and Kids. As a not for profit organisation, it’s donations like these that help us to channel more resources into services and programs.Read more...

MyTime is a peer support group for parents of children with a disability or chronic medical condition. The focus of Tweddle's six groups is you, the parent or carer. It's about taking time out and sharing things you know other people in your group will understand. Relax with a tea or coffee and make new friends. Tweddle has passed the first hurdle in the The Bank of Melbourne's ‘The Local Project’ competition, to help fund a parenting guide in four languages, but we need your help. Vote for us in the ‘education’ category by following the attached link - If we receive the most votes, we’ll get the grant. Parenting is tough in any language.
