Tweddle celebrate three years in Geelong

Posted by Kerrie Gottliebsen | 23/05/12

Over 500 new parents in the Geelong region have received much needed support in developing their skills and confidence since Tweddle@Waurn Ponds was launched in May 2009, but not without the support from Give Where You Live.

Give Where You Live have stepped in on four occasions and helped Tweddle with costs relating to establishing the centre and keeping it functioning for parents needing support.

Give Where You Live’s Funding Program has covered everything from crucial day to day items such as sheets, blankets, cots, toys, books, high chairs, baby rockers and safety gates through to imperative safety and disability capital upgrades and a children’s playground.

The Day Stay program, run in collaboration with the St. John of God Hospital, operates every Monday (excluding public holidays) and is staffed by a maternal and child health nurse and a mothercraft nurse for parents of children up to 12 months of age and supports four families every week.

Tweddle's Geelong based Maternal and child health nurse has been there since the service opened and has witnessed the growth and establishment of the centre which provides services for Geelong families for free.

The service helps with transition to parenting, child development stages, feeding, settling, establishment of a flexible pattern, safety, play and parent physical and emotional well-being.
